WHO IS IVAN MERZ?

Ivan Merz was born in Banja Luka, Bosnia, on 16 December 1896, and was baptized on 2 February 1897. He attended elementary and middle school in Banja Luka and, after a brief period of education at the military academy of Wiener Noustadt, he enrolled in 1915 at the University of Vienna, with the dream of teaching young people in Bosnia; thus, he would be following the example of his professor, Ljubomir Marakovic, who helped Ivan to discover the richness of the Catholic faith. MISSIONS

MISSION FOR EVANGELIZATION

PathFire Philippines and the Merz Institute of Lay Empowerment and Spirituality (MILES) together advance the mission of evangelization and formation in the spirit of Blessed Ivan Merz by nurturing faith, education, and youth engagement. PathFire promotes dynamic spiritual exercises—such as campus ministry, retreats, recollections, seminars, team building, and pilgrimages. Complementing this, MILES provides quality, affordable, and authentic Catholic education through Outcome-Based Education (OBE).

MISSION FOR SANCTIFICATION

The mission for sanctification is to lead the faithful to holiness through the Reliquarium, by fostering devotion to God through the veneration of the saints's relics and offering the sacred presence of the Blessed Sacrament as sources of prayer, healing, and reconciliation; by extending evangelization through the Tour of Sacred Relics; and by providing continuous spiritual support through Mass intentions, sacramentals, and spiritual direction—thus creating a living oasis of faith that unites individuals and communities more deeply with Christ and His Church.

The Blessed Ivan Merz Scholarship Fund and Kusina ni Blessed Ivan embody the Family’s mission of living out faith through education and charity in the footsteps of their patron. Established in 2003, the Scholarship Fund is the first apostolate of the Blessed Ivan Merz Family, providing financial assistance and faith formation to economically disadvantaged yet deserving students, ensuring that the youth are nurtured in both education and Christian life.
